It is a new production method that incorporates technology such as extruding the stripped rubber in a thin ribbon shape of about 15mm in width, winding it around a rotating building drum, and make necessary tire parts.
In “Conventional method”, tire parts such as wide treads are wound around a drum, and both ends are laminated to make it a green tire. This laminated part is called a “Joint portion”. On the other hand, the “A.T.O.M.” manufecturing method is called “jointless” because there is no joint portion like the conventional method has.
In the case of forming tire tread in conventional way, a large joint occurs, causing high tire imbalance.
On the other hand, in A.T.O.M way, only tiny joints are generated at the beginning and at the end of the winding, which improves tire uniformity dramatically.
In the conventional production method, it is necessary to replace the parts for each product type, so it takes time to change production. In that respect, A.T.O.M. can produce different parts by changing computer program, resulting in efficient multi-product, small-lot production.
In 2017, 45% of TOYO TIRES Passenger Car tire production was produced by A.T.O.M..
