Toyo Tire’s GHG Emissions Reduction Targets Receive SBT Certification

Hyogo, Japan – December 9, 2024 – Toyo Tire Corporation (Headquarters: Itami City, Hyogo Prefecture; President & CEO: Takashi Shimizu; hereinafter, “Toyo Tire”) announces that it has recently received SBT certification from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)1 for its GHG emissions reduction targets set for 2030, confirming that they are based on scientific evidence to limit global temperature rise to 1.5℃.
1. A joint initiative set up in 2015 by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), the CDP (formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project), the World Resources Institute (WRI), and the United Nations Global Compact.

SBT

 

Science Based Targets (SBTs) are GHG emissions reduction targets aligned with the levels of reduction stipulated in the Paris Agreement,2 which was agreed upon at the 21st session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP21) held in 2015. Toyo Tire received certification for its medium-term GHG emissions reduction targets targeting 2030 (Scopes 1, 2, and 3), as detailed below.

2. The Paris Agreement aimed to hold average global temperature increase to well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels and pursue efforts to limit it to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.
3. Emissions resulting from Toyo Tire’s business activities.
