TOYO TIRES Supporting Team HUMMER in the Dakar Rally 2011
Osaka, Japan-December 27, 2010 - TOYO TIRE & RUBBER Co. LTD. (President and CEO: Kenji Nakakura) hereby announces it is providing off-road tires for Robby Gordon’s Team HUMMER in the 2011 Dakar rally, which will be held January 1, 2011 to January 16, 2011.
The Dakar rally starts in Buenos Aires, Argentina and travels through Chile before returning to Buenos Aires. The total distance of this, the world’s most grueling rally race will be more than 9,500 km (5,903 miles) including 14 special stages.
Toyo Tires has supplied Gordon with off-road Toyo Open Country M/T-R tires since 2005. In 2010, Gordon won stage 4 of the Dakar and in 2009, he took 3rd place overall. In addition to Gordon’s HUMMER, the team plans to have a second HUMMER on the course. It too will be equipped with Toyo Open Country M/T-R tires.
Toyo Tires aims to enhance their tire technology and durability through motorsports activities like the Dakar rally.
The company recently extended their sponsorship agreement with Robby Gordon through 2013.
Under the agreement, Gordon will continue to represent Toyo Tires at international off-road races such as the Dakar rally, SCORE Baja 500 and SCORE Baja1000.
