STATUS UPDATE REGARDING TOYO TIRES' SENDAI PLANT

Osaka, Japan - March 18, 2011  - TOYO TIRE & RUBBER CO., LTD. (President and CEO: Kenji Nakakura, “The Company”) would like to express our deepest condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones as a result of the Tohoku Earthquake on March 11, 2011, and we hope the area will see a swift recovery.

Sendai factory, manufacturing automobile tires, located in the Tohoku area, had suspended production since March 11, 2011, due to a power outage. The Company has announced the restarting of the Sendai factory as follows:

1) Test operations commenced on March 18 after power and steam became available.
2) Partial production is expected to resume next week.
3) Tire production will occur on a limited basis for the time being. There are shortages of oil and raw materials as a result of disaster damage to the transportation system, lack of fuel, and blocked roads. The Company will increase production as this situation improves.
