Hyogo, Japan – January 31, 2019 – Toyo Tire Corporation (HQ: Itami, Hyogo, Japan; President: Takashi Shimizu) announces that its U.S. tire production subsidiary Toyo Tire North America Manufacturing Inc. (President: Donald C. Bunn; hereinafter “TNA”) has manufactured its 50 millionth tire.

The 50 millionth tire* was a Ridge Grappler for light trucks, sold under the Nitto brand, which has been highly lauded for its aggressive looks and on-road quietness.

TNA began operations as the group’s U.S. tire production site in December 2005. High-quality tires manufactured by the company’s proprietary highly-automated “A.T.O.M. (Advanced Tire Operation Module)” production method, with a focus on large-diameter tires for light trucks, are used in professional-grade large pickup trucks and SUVs not only in the North American aftermarket, but also by automobile manufacturers in new vehicles.

The company has gradually expanded TNA’s production capacity in order to meet the increased demand for tires for light trucks in the North American market. The total number of tires manufactured reached 30 million in 2016 and 40 million in 2017. TNA is currently in the fifth stage of its production capacity expansion and plans to begin operating equipment this April that will boost annual production by 1.2 million tires (converted for passenger vehicle tires).
